About GoBackpacking

GoBackpacking was the brainchild of a guy name Dave who currently lives in Northern Virginia. After graduating from college in 1998, he embarked on the adventure of his lifetime - backpacking for 2 months in Europe. To make a long story short, his companions decided to head home early, and Dave spent the final 5 1/2 weeks traveling solo. He learned a lot about himself and other cultures during this time.

After arriving home in September of 1998, he had no clue as to what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. In fact, he would have been happy to enter retirement at the age of 21. Unfortunately, that was not a possibility, so he decided to build a web site instead of looking for a job. After transcribing his entire 50+ day travel journal onto the web, he began working for CareerBuilderWith a stable job, Dave decided to build on his original web site, by focusing on travel advice through feature articles rather than his lengthy journal. Dave has decided to commit his free time and extra savings toward providing you with a community focused around budget travel.

One more thing before you go. GoBackpacking and Dave can't succeed without your help! In order for this site to continue providing fresh, interesting, and useful content, we need everyone, or even just you, the person reading this right now, to contribute. This could be as easy as linking to this page on your own web site or e-mailing the address to a friend. Or, you could write! Write feature articles on your experiences or reviews of equipment and guide books. Click here to find out more!
