Survival of the Fattest

The little news ticker on CNN shows that Bam Margera got married this past weekend. I was a bit surprised to see it make the news, though he’s made quite a name for himself in the entertainment/mtv and skateboarding industries. I’ve been following his progression from the CKY skate videos to Jackass to Viva La Bam, and now Bam’s Unholy Union, plus I’m a big fan of his brother’s band, CKY (Camp Kill Yourself). I have to give it to the guy for making millions as a skater/entertainer. Seems like a crazy life. He’s made millions from it though, and has the Lambo’s to show for it.

I heard from my friend Eric for the first time in a year or so. He was a college roomate, and one of the guys I went with on my first backpacking trip (to Europe) back in 1998. It sucks to lose touch with friends. It just seems to happen. It really takes effort on both sides to stay close, especially when you live far away.

I’ve been something of a hibernating bear lately, only working out once a week, and declining social invitations to go out to bars. I feel as though I have to focus on saving. Starting this year I’ve stopped going to a weekly dharma teaching which carried a $10 donation with it. I’ve stopped taking salsa lessons through Joy of Motion in DC, which carried a $15 a week cost. And I also stopped playing indoor soccer with my company team. There was no cost there, except playing all last year, I grew tired of all the games we lost (just about every single one), and decided to take a break. Other than that, paychecks, tax refunds, bonuses – all going into my ING Direct savings account.
Speaking of soccer, I’ve started to get messages from the DC United fan club, Barra Brava. Preseason events are starting to lineup, in advance of the ’07 MLS season which kicks off the first week of April. I plan to be more involved this year. I should still be in town for the MLS Cup as well, which is being hosted at RFK stadium in DC. It’d be awesome if DC United made it to the finals this year!
