ComeBackAlive.com - Robert Young Pelton is a contributor for National Geographic Adventure. He describes himself as “the man, the adventurer, the writer” on his official website, which sounds curiously similar to what I put on my moo cards (traveler, writer, adventurer). The only difference seems to be my preference for sandy, tropical beaches over landlocked warzones…

His recent journeys have taken him inside the siege of Grozny in Chechnya, the battle of Qala-I-Jangi in Afghanistan, the rebel campaign to take Monrovia in Liberia, inside the hunt for Bin Laden in the Tribal Areas with the CIA, with insurgents during the war in Iraq and running RPG Alley every day for four weeks with Blackwater in Baghdad.”

So, yeah, I have no desire to go where he goes, however if you’re in need of some advice for traveling off the beaten path, or to areas which you may believe to be especially dangerous (Columbia, Ethiopia, Syria), check out his Black Flag Cafe, a set of forums which are rather dark in their overtones, though well frequented by people who seem to be keen on sharing the latest political and violent news from around the world.

Dare Me to do something fun, weird, or challenging on the road!

Wow, that guy is pretty intense! Thanks for linking to this though, I have never seen anything like it. Pretty interesting.

I think I burned through half of a weekend a while back reading through Pelton’s stuff. It’s truly incredible writing. I think the Discovery Channel should give him his own show - that’d really be “must see” TV.
