Postcards From the Edge

Over the weekend, I received a postcard from Boris of Travel Junkie. He sent it while in Hervey Bay, along Fraser Coast, in Queensland, Australia. The postage was $1.25 AUD, which seems like quite a deal considering how far the little piece of paper had to travel.

The nicely written postcard was a “thank you” in return for a 5 euro (~$8) donation I made after reading his very well written Support page. If you check it out, you’ll see I qualified as a Breakfast Supporter, while he is still awaiting his first Sushi (6-24 euro) and Gordon Ramsay (25+ euro) supporters.

Once I get a little closer to my own departure, I’m going to put up a similar page. Unlike Boris, who is offering to send some gifts for higher donations, I thought I would offer to do activities that people suggest.

Please let me know what you think of my pitch:

Sponsor Me! Activity – (This option will not be in effect until I am on the road.) Once the trip is underway, you can ask me to do something fun, funny, strange, adventurous or pedestrian. Perhaps you have a fond memory of an old park in Sydney, a favorite island off the coast of Greece, a desire to see a 3-scoop Italian chocolate gelato being consumed, or would prefer I take a detour through Myanmar. Tell me about it by posting a comment here, along with a suggested donation amount. If I accept, then I’ll write about it, post pictures and/or video on the blog, and show my thanks by adding you to the Donors – Thank You page!

Of course donations without associated activities would work just as well!  :)

Dave, I like the idea. Sounds like fun! And thanks for writing about my support page. Don’t know if it had anything to do with it, but yesterday I got in another donation!
