Post-trip Reflections

 Leaving the States for Tahiti

It feels weird to be reflecting on my trip around the world when I am not back in the United States.  Before I left home November 29. 2007, I imagined my writing at this point would be amongst a pile of souvenirs, journals, photographs and videos in the company of my parents.  I would sift and comb through it all to try and sum up the journey of a lifetime, yet here I am sitting outside at a copy shop’s laptop across the street from a Colombian University in Medellin.  I have access to my two most recent handwritten journals, my blog’s archives, 17,000 uploaded photos on Flickr, 49 videos on YouTube, and all my personal memories.  It all sounds rather daunting, so I am going to put aside my perfectionism and simply write the next bunch of entries as stream of conscience.

And please feel free to submit any questions.  A popular one I will answer next week is what the contents are of my backpack now as opposed to when I so meticulously took inventory before leaving home.

I have read your blog since you were preparing to go on your trip. However, I have never commented.

What a wonderful experience you have had!

However, what I want to know now is… What are you going to do NOW?

Have you changed your mind about a 9-5 job?

Well it’s been a long while since I’ve commented Dave but I have been following you all they way, I’m really happy that you are heading how the working/expat route. I’m working on it myself and hopefully will have my new joint venture site up this weekend. Maybe you are avoiding joining the bandwagon but I might suggest you sign up with Twitter, I know it has been a great source of traffic/marketing etc for Gary at everythingeverywhere. Anyway, I’d like to update you soon on what I’m up to.

Have a great time.

Hola Jane, thanks for finally chiming in!

I am currently living in Medellin, Colombia, and trying to teach English privately. I think the next logical step after so much travel is to try living in a foreign country. Check out my new blog, http://MedellinLiving.com for more about life in Colombia. :)

Hey Dan, good to hear from you and thanks for your continued support. I signed up for Twitter, though I don’t know how much I’ll use it since I tend to post to my blogs daily anyways, and I can’t send text messages with my phone as it only works within Colombia. doh!

I look forward to seeing your new project!
