Video of the Week – Trekking in Nepal

In keeping with my theme of recent Friday Flashbacks, this is a video from Marcus showing footage and scenes from the Annapurna Base Camp trek which I did.  Learning to edit my own video footage online is #372 on my list of things “to do” now that I’m home.

  • How was your time in Nepal? When were you there? Was it safe? We are supposed to be there in one week...spending three weeks in Nepal.
  • Hi Kate - I loved Nepal. It has an old world, spiritual feel complete with stunning mountain scenery, and friendly people. The only thing I didn't care too much for was the Nepali food (dhal bat is one of my least favorite dishes!), but there are other options in most areas, catering to the tourists.

I was there from April to mid-May 2008. April mornings were best for the clear mountain views. It was getting hazy by May.

Yes, I felt very safe, and this was even during the first free elections when the Maoists won.

I'm glad to here Nepal is on your itinerary. One of my favorite spots is Bodhnath Stupa. Sit and watch the Tibetans walk around it and turn the prayer wheels any time of day, or join in yourself. Even better, stay a few nights in one of the guest houses there in order to take a break from the uber-tourist zone of Thamel in Kathmandu. You may even wake up to the sounds of monks chanting at one of the local monasteries. :)
