Thanks Devon. I don't have an easy answer for you, though many people do decide to find teaching (English) work abroad, and make some money to travel while working in another country. Australia is popular for the Brits, and South Korea is popular for everyone.

such a shame that money rules everything, even for the people to whom it means nothing.

at the moment i own £2,000, cant find a job and have no qualifications, but desperately want to go traveling;

i understand the people that say "you only live once, just go for it with the money you have", but what happens after 6 months when i am left with no job, no qualifications, and £100.

i feel completely trapped.

I enjoyed this post. I have traveled to Europe, but only for short stays, and I was able to stay with family most of the time. Great advice and pictures, too.

Yeah… I'll skip on the dumpster diving. Baguette, wine and cheese tend to be cheap enough and filling! Gotta love europe. I read an interesting blog on hitching. I forget where. Oh well.

$50 a day! What!? That is so expensive. With couchsurfing, hitchhiking, dumpster diving and camping it is significantly cheaper my friend. But then again we have entirely different travel styles. Thanks for the post David!

Yes, the Euro has certainly changed things. My first trip to Europe was pre-Euro, but it was still expensive on the whole as I was going to all the best known big cities and the UK.

Oh, how the euro has changed everything. Would you agree that the price has really skyrocketed in Europe? I'm referring to places like CR and Greece. Spain's still do-able on the cheap.
