Many people these days are unaware of bed bugs symptoms. It is understandable since bed bugs together with some pests have been exterminated during the widespread use of DDT in the United States after World War I.

Yuck - I've seen Bear Grylls eat some massive larvae and watching the innards drip out of his mouth as he tries to chuck it down is disgusting!

Your Bhagsu experience reminds me of some long freshwater eels I encountered canyoning in New Zealand. We fed them some bread from our lunch and they seemed happy. But I didn't get in the pool with them!

I think the worst one I've come across is the silkworm larvae in South Korea, mainly because you're expected to eat them, and they smell awful. You can buy tins of them to bring home, though, which is just a brilliant gift for the family :P.

I do remember McLeod Ganj being full or horrible creepy things, though, half of which seemed to be congregating in the cold water spring swimming pool up the road in Bhagsu. Not that I realised before I got in...

In all honesty, I didn't know how to handle a scorpion in my toilet, so I went to breakfast and casually mentioned it to my hosts.

'Er guys, there is a scorpion in my toilet'
'OK no worries, we'll get it in a bit'
'No seriously, there is a scorpion in my toilet!'

I wrote about it on my blog back in April:

http://www.adventurerob.com/2009/04/toilet-scor...

I was informed afterwards it wasn't poisonous, that didn't make it better!

The funny thing is you get desensitized to the bugs rather quick. At least I did. Just not the spiders...and scorpions. :)

Surprisingly, I just used a 8x11 piece of paper to sweep it across the tile floor. With a little flick at the end, I bumped it over the door jamb. Yuck!

Those bugs are some pretty serious business. That scorpion looks crazy and I can't believe how big that roach was. What did you use to get the scorpion out of your room?

Wow that's certainly a lot of encounters you've had! I ended up getting used to cockroaches in places like Thailand but never seen one that big. My most memorable encounter was waking up to find a scorpion in my friggin toilet! I didn't realise scorpions were so happy underwater until that day.
