Editor’s Note: Go Backpacking is proud to feature a new series by T-roy, dedicated to profiling people from around the world, through photography and their own words.

What is your first name: Evelyn
What city are you from: Quito
What country are you from: Ecuador
What do you do: Retired and an avid pigeon feeder now
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why: Paris, France because I want to climb the Eiffel Tower and see the cultural.
What’s your dream and why: To be young again for a day so that I could do all the crazy adventurous things I did once before (and a few others).
Photographer’s Notes: Ok I don’t know where to start with this incredible lady. Maybe that she worked for 4 Ecuadorian presidents or that she had 10 children? How about the fact that when she was 15 she started a non-profit organization that helped teach trades to uneducated Ecuadorians? That she liked to paraglide and hang-glide to teaching dance lessons like the Tango, Rumba and classical. Or my personal favorite, she used to bull fight when younger and even got gored by a bull in the stomach (which she still bares the scar)!
You might think your an adventurous soul, or that you have done a lot in your life…but after meeting someone like Evelyn, you will know for sure that you have a long way to go to catch up. She is 70+ years old and has no time to slow down. Yes, with the years she has had to take things more slowly, but she still has a mind like a hawk and is very vocal about what she thinks (she did say I was handsome which I give her 2 points for that!).
Working in politics for 25+ years, being involved with humanitarian projects all her life, coupled with an adventurous soul, makes her the kind of unique person that I think everyone should meet in their lifetime. Her favorite saying when visiting the USA was “English never…Spanish always!” You got to love that…

Good post! She does look like a very interesting person to meet.
Profiling people from the places you go to is something I haven't seen in other blogs and I think it's a great idea. If I don't get to travel to those countries at least it gives me an idea of what people are like over there, what they think and like…
Thanks for the comment! I always ask the same question of everyone and I feel like it gives the reader a general idea of what people think about the same subject from different parts of the world.
I'll be posting more on this website and it's kind of cool to see what one person's dream from Peru is compared to say someone from Cuba.
What an adorable lady! The people I admire the most are the type like this- growing old but staying young at heart! Whereas many would succumb to old age and the (many) inconveniences it brings, they are filled with a love for life and still on the move! She totally reminds me of my grandmother! keep these coming!
Well said Rita! Her answers to the questions were really inspiring. I wonder if some day I'll be saying that I'm a “pigeon feeder?” I'm excited to see more of them as well.
I am not a fan of pigeons, so in case you are up for it Dave be my guest :) I would be happy to back up a global organization of senior pigeon feeders and supply bread where possible.
I wouldn't mind being called an avid “handsome men watcher” when I'm 76, either.
Fantastic photo and story!!! I would have loved to have sat down and listened to her life story over some coffee. She seems so extraordinary!
….and I, an avid pretty woman watcher. :)
