Video – Tubing in Vang Vieng, Laos

Episode 23 In the tubing -Vang Vieng, Laos from HAPPYTIMEBLOG on Vimeo.

Georgie's La La Land:
We get battered with a few days "tubing" down the river in Vang Vieng, Laos. We get very drunk, bob a little down the river, throw ourselves off the rope swings and then do it again the next day.

_

From the Editor: During my trip around the world, there were only a handful of times I didn’t have my camera with me.  Tubing in Vang Vieng, Laos is one of those rare times.  I recently came across this video which captures the experience perfectly:  the lazy river, rope swings, drinking, zipline, mud fights, and girls in bikinis, all set against a backdrop of beautiful mountains.

Tubing in Vang Vieng isn’t a culturally sensitive excursion, however it has become a BIG draw for tourism to Laos, and I have to admit, it was a damn good time!

  • Thanks a bunch for putting our video up, I really have no idea how the camera or me survived that river... I too intended to stay completely sober... I fell at the first bar! But it makes good watching!
You have to love Vang Vieng, it's so sleepy and lazy during the day because everyones up the river and those mountains are the perfect backdrop for such fun!
  • Yeah, I definitely enjoyed my time in Vang Vieng. I celebrated my 32nd birthday with rock climbing and some Korean BBQ.

Oh man! That brings me back ;-) You said it perfectly, it's not culturally sensitive, but it was an absolute blast!
  • I actually thought I could go tubing and not drink any alcohol. No more than 2 minutes of tubing in the river, we're already out of the water at the first rope swing, and a guy I was with bought me a big bottle of beer.

Heh heh heh, that's funny that you thought you could resist - that's
essentially all you do on the river! I too though was really surprised that
the first bar is right there next downstrem from the Mulberry Farm. Did you
    do the rope swings? :-)
  • Shannon -

I skipped the first rope swing (which I think was the highest), but did the zipline, and the last rope swing that was available to us. Lots of fun, but I still didn't have the urge to go 3-4 days in a row like some people.
