Insider's Travel & Living Guide to GhanaThis is a guest post by Pamela MacNaughtan. If you want to guest post on Go Backpacking, please read more here.

Ghana has been on my travel list for some time now, however I’ve been reluctant to commit it to my itinerary. Researching a trip can be a lot of fun, but reading guidebooks can be boring as hell, and a lot of time they’re outdated. So, when I opened the Insider’s Travel & Living Guide to Ghana and discovered it was 278 pages in length, I was nervous and impressed.

147 pages of cultural info, language tips and background info before the actual city info can be a bit daunting. It’s a lot of information to absorb. However, in a country like Ghana, where schedules and maps are almost non-existent, the information contained within this guides 278 pages can be quite useful.

The guidebook uses the capital city, Accra, as a jumping off point to all other destinations in Ghana, and contains wonderfully accurate hand-drawn maps.  The information about transportation is very concise, and would likely make travel throughout Ghana easy and relatively worry-free.

Unlike a lot of eBooks these days, this one is a steal of a deal. For $12 you receive 4 MP3 files, an 8 minute Twi Daily Phrase lesson, an 8 minute Hausa Daily Phrases lesson, How to ” haggie” a taxi driver, and How to ” haggie” buying food on the street.

The authors, Gayle Pescud and Godwin Yidana, have obviously put in a lot of time and research into this guidebook. In fact, I’m tempted to send this guidebook to a friend of mine who recently left for a 3-month trip to Ghana.

The Alfred Hitchcock Locations Walks in London and New York-Sandra Shevey takes visitors to New York on a suspenseful excursion through Manhattan and Queens in the footsteps of director Alfred Hitchcock who immortalised some of New York City`s most romantic neighborhoods in 9 of his New York-based films. The walk which goes every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year, lasts for 3 hours and departs at llam. The cost is $25 excl Metrocard. The voyage takes us to such locales as midtown Manhattan, Greenwich Village, Jackson Heights, Forest Hills and Astoria.Films profiled include `North by Northwest`, `The Wrong Man`, `Strangers on a Train`, `Topaz`, `Rear Window` and `Spellbound`.Seeing the actual sites of Hitchcock`s locations enables us to understand the distortions- ie the ways that his imagination transformed sites. The result allows us to penetrate the magic of this masterful genius.Sandra Shevey has been profiling film since l968 and interviewed the director Alfred Hitchcock in l972. She has authored numerous articles and several books both and has also taught cinema at several universities in America. She has an urge to capture & document the stunning things around her, & share them with somebody who cares to listen! Look at any films involving huge landscapes.
