The advent of cost-comparison websites on the Internet has made all of our lives easier over the years. In the travel niche, airfare comparison sites are amongst my favorite tools to use when planning a new adventure.
Along those same lines, if you’re planning a trip which requires a car rental, you may want to begin by using the search engine at RentACarNow.com. Instead of conducting the same car searches over and over again on individual rental sites, such as Hertz and Enterprise, you can enter your city, airport, or zip code for pickup, along with the dates and times, just once.
I took the search engine for a test spin by looking at the cost of a Miami car rental from August 18-22, 2010. The results brought up 249 different options, across 6 well known rental companies. Users have the ability to sort their options using a variety of criteria, including: vendor, price, distance, car type, luggage, and passengers. Each listing includes the vendor, vehicle model, price per day (and total price per time frame), and some basic information about the vehicle.
To reserve a car, click the green “Rent It!” button and you’ll go to a short form requesting basic information, such as your name, address, and telephone number. You will also have the chance to purchase rental insurance.
Like other cost-comparing websites, RentACarNow.com acts as a gateway to funnel reservations to the rental car companies, so they are not involved in the actual rental process itself. Right now, all of the major American markets are covered, including (but not limited to) Orlando car rental and Fort Lauderdale car rental in Florida, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington, DC.
Two small things I’d like to see included in the site include an “about us” page that includes a little more detail about the people behind the business, and a page with advice and tips for renters.
While I can’t recall the last time I rented a car in the USA, as most of my travel is international, I do know that when that time comes, I’ll be looking at sites such as RentACarNow.com in advance to try and flush out the best deals before my plane hits the tarmac.
