10 Travel Blogs Looking for Guest Posts

This is a guest post by Shane Donovan. If you’d like to guest post on Go Backpacking, please read more here.

Writing from the road (Koh Phangan, Thailand).

Writing from the road (Koh Phangan, Thailand).

I’m trying to grow my blog and I’m guessing, because you are reading this, that you are too. Like me you have probably been told that guest posting is a great way to showcase your writing, get the word out about your website and improve search engine rankings.

As a backpacker I recognise that every single item I buy will not only subtract from my travel budget but will also add to the weight of the pack I’m toting around on my back. The same logic can be applied to the hours spent researching good places to offer up our writing.

Every hour spent in research is an hour lost posting to our own blogs so when I found 12 travel blogs looking for guest posts I shared them with my readers and freed up the night for something else.

Later I realised I had still missed a trick. I should have guest posted the article about guest posting. This time I have not made the same mistake with the following ten blogs that would be interested in your guest writing.

In the Know Traveler

ITKT promotes original stories, blogs, and features written by seasoned pros and articulate novices alike. Substantial submission guidelines and a checklist for writers are readily available and for some articles and blog posts a small payment is made.

Past guest posts:

Indie Travel Podcast

Travelling full time, Craig and Linda have built ITP into an excellent multi media travel site attracting around 20,000 unique visitors a month.

Past guest posts:

foXnoMad

Anil promises to read and consider every submission he receives to his large repository of ways and gadgets vagabonds can use to save money, stay in touch and make the most of their travels.

Past guest posts:

The World is my Jungle Gym

Brendan van Son’s site is meant to allow the reader to close their eyes and see the sights, smell the scents, and feel the emotion as if they were there along side the writer. Guest posts are accepted if not necessarily encouraged.

Past guest posts:

CheapOair

The blog of this airline ticket provider requires a new guest post every day or two on a variety of travel related topics.

Past guest posts:

  • 5 Cheap Ways to Volunteer in Peru
  • A Breezy Room in La Kasbah Restaurant

The Brooklyn Nomad

By pure coincidence Andrew Hickey, the Brooklyn Nomad, is the social media manager at CheapOair. Recognising the importance of guest posting Andrew’s blog features a considerable amount of content written by others.

Past guest posts:

A Pair of Panties and Boxers

The writings of another Brooklyner involved in social media. Travellers who have done a spot of volunteering are welcomed to share their personal stories, resources and advice for the Do Good Thursday feature.

Past guest posts:

A Travel Around the World

Italian couple Marta and Chris are happy to hear the stories of backpackers, career breakers and perpetual travellers.

Past guest posts:

  • How to be Tourist in Your Hometown
  • Turkey, The Legend of Jesus Beach

Wild Junket

Nellie Huang is a fairly prolific guest blogger herself and her own blog welcomes the writings of others for the Your Wildest Adventure series.

Past guest posts:

Spunky Girl Monologues

A thirty something Canadian, Pamela has reached out to her fellow bloggers and travellers and integrated guest writers into her blog.

Past guest posts:

  • Walking the Fine Line of Charity
  • Divide and Conquer: Traveling as a Couple

Thanks for this list, I need to work on producing guest posts for other sites and low and behold you lay this pretty little present before me. I’ve had one person guest post on my site, and while I don’t have the ranking and pull of the sites you listed I’m willing and open for submissions to be flung my way too.

Hey Cornelius, I’ve already noted that you accept guest posts and have you shortlisted for a planned follow up article.

Great list – very useful. I’m actually looking for guest bloggers for my blog, http://www.talesofabritabroad.blogspot.com, if there are any British expats out there who’d like to write a post about their experiences!

Hi Dave,

Thank you for the shout out. It is much appreciated. FYI, ITKT also pays a little for both blogs and features, and yes we are always looking for new writers.

No problem. It’s a nice break when you’re wearing your editor hat and, as you say, good exposure when doing the writing.

Hey! We are always looking for guest posts on our site as well. http://ytravelblog.com
Thanks for putting this list together

Shane September 4, 2010 at 5:35 am

I did check out yTravelBlog for this list and I think the only reason you didn’t appear here was because I only find one link to a past guest post on your site (I wanted two). I promise to include you next time though, in a couple of weeks or so, in the follow up I’ll be doing over on The Working Traveller

Reply

Shane September 4, 2010 at 5:42 am

That’s good to know. I’m a British expat in Turkey but for some reason haven’t really written much about living here yet. I will bear you in mind when I do.

Thanks Shane for reminding me to put a page up for guest posting. I’ve been trying to get this done for ages but keep forgetting. All my guest posts come under the author guest writer. I should have about 5 on my site. Let me know and I’ll send you the links. I’ve got a new one coming this Tuesday as well.
Thanks again!

Fab idea, well done Dave and your guest contributor! I’d love to give and receive some more guesties myself. My blog is about rail and green/slow travel, but I occasionally get diverted onto music and other topics too! Please drop me a line if you’re interested. It doesn’t have to be strictly train-related either. Thanks, Jools :-)
