I’ve been to Cali, Colombia twice now, and I’ve yet to see a couple break out with the salsa dancing like this one. I’m sure if I looked a little harder I’d find them though.
Actually, on my last trip to Cali, a Caleño (the name for people from Cali) was asking me to teach her a few salsa moves.
Me, the gringo who until two years ago would be sitting nervously with a beer, watching everyone else have fun!
It just goes to show that you can’t apply a city’s stereotype against all it’s people. Not everyone in Cali (nor Colombia) can dance like the couple in this video, so adjust your expectations before heading out, and you’ll have a great time!

Can’t wait to get to Cali in less than 2 weeks! I plan on going out to dance salsa every night :)
Tin Tin Deo is good on Thursday nights (and all weekend for that matter).
Zaperoco is also fun (near La Sexta).
I had a few people recommend a club called “Salsa” on my last visit — suppose to be great on Sunday nights. Ask around for the location.
Also, there’s a neighborhood in the east of town called Juanchito that is suppose to have an old, popular salsa bar called Chango.
Wow! How long does it take to get that good? That was really impressive.
Very impressive! How abnormal is it to be this good in Columbia? Does this go on at a typical bar or was this pretty special?
Most Colombians don’t dance this well. They know the basics, and to them, salsa isn’t about showing off complicated moves, it’s about having fun and connecting with yoru partner.
I’m guessing this couple has trained and danced together for years. They may be instructors or professional performers. You’re more likely to see dancing of this caliber in Cali than any other part of Colombia.
