A-Bomb Dome in Hiroshima
During my trip to Japan in early February, a visit to the A-Bomb Dome in Hiroshima was high on my to-do list.
After devouring okonomiyaki for lunch, I walked over to the exact location above which the world’s first atomic bomb was dropped during World War II. At first, the skies were cloudy and grey, as to be expected in Winter. Unfortunately, that’s less than ideal for photography.
As I encircled the building, one of the few structures to survive the explosion (and now preserved as a memorial), the sun began to come out. The clouds broke apart to reveal blue skies, which contrasted nicely with the red brick and grey concrete of the structure.

I’ve been to Hiroshima and it was such a chilling experience. Taking photos, it was weird as it’s sort of not somewhere you smile into the camera at, if that makes sense. Amazing to see how this event changed the world.
